The Mineral Habit: Exhibitor Highlight of the The Milwaukee Mineral, Fossil, Gem & Jewelry Show

The Mineral Habit is a small sole-proprietor business, a very little fish in what at times can be a very big pond.  Charlie Spencer is a retired university geology teacher, and the business is an outgrowth of his 50 years of collecting.  This gives Charlie the opportunity to interact with other collectors, to bring new people into the collecting community, and to educate folks about minerals and fossils (and very often learn things he didn’t know). 

The specimens that The Mineral Habit offers are sourced from wholesale dealers, private collections, and occasionally directly from the diggers. When purchasing material, Charlie always keeps the price he will need to charge customers in mind. Most of the specimens you’ll see in The Mineral Habit booth are priced below $100 (and a goodly number below $40). There are even kid-friendly-budget specimens.

Although high-end specimens are not the emphasis of The Mineral Habit, that’s not to say there are no pricier pieces. When Charlie comes across an opportunity to acquire them, he does; if the price is right. And The Mineral Habit will be bringing them to the show.

The Mineral, Fossil, Gem & Jewelry industry Is made up of thousands of sellers, diggers, purveyors, manufacturers, collectors, educators, enthusiasts, and the scientific & educational community all brought together in the arena they love to share and sell and showcase their products at.  The Milwaukee Mineral, Fossil, Gem & Jewelry Show featuring The Bead Pavilion held August 13-17, 2025 at the BAIRD CENTER in Downtown Milwaukee steps away from the beautiful Lake Michigan waterfront will be no different – but only on a more massive and extensive way.
